Memorandum
This year marks my second in the mentoring program run by the Grafia Association of Visual Communication Designers in Finland, where I’m honored to be a mentor.
The path of an artist isn’t about money or fame; it’s about passion, vision, and the drive to create.
In this post, I’ll share some lessons I’ve learned that have shaped my work and how I approach supporting others on their creative journeys.
The Dream That Began It All
This journey did not start for the money; if it were about the money, there would have been a multitude of other careers with clearer and more linear paths. You chose this journey because you were driven by something deeper, a vision, a dream that only you could see and feel. That dream is your compass.
The Magnetism of Goodness
When we navigate life led by the compass of our authenticity, hearts, and souls, we become magnets for the good. Good energy, good people, good opportunities – they all come closer.
Transform Through Creativity
Yes, the journey is tough. The road is full of challenges and that’s totally okay. Just remember not to succumb, but to transform any moment of sorrow, any period of doubt, into something new, something interesting, something beautiful. Your ability to create, to transmute pain into something grateful, is your greatest gift.
Quiet Rebellion
The idea that meaning can be found in the mundane, or that beauty lies hidden within the everyday and ordinary, is itself a simple yet revolutionary concept. When you pick out and elevate what seems to be ordinary from our daily lives, your life becomes extraordinary.
Marathon: Motivation Over Skill
It’s a marathon, not a 100-meter sprint: Your passion keeps you going, not just your skills. In the long run, motivation is everything.
The Power of 1% Daily Improvement
Keep track of your achievements to support your progress. These accomplishments not only boost your self-esteem but also lay the groundwork for steady improvement: even just 1% every day can lead to significant progress.
Keep it real
Money is necessary, but it’s easy to get caught in the commercial vortex. Remember to maintain integrity and stay true to your principles.
